Taking serious note of the brutal assault committed by personnel of 22 Maratha Light Infantry regiment on Okram Kunjabihari, who is a mentally disable on the night of May 22 near his house at Nambol Khajiri Mamang Leikai, Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) has demanded the State Government to order full, independent and impartial inquiry into the matter.
In a statement, programme co-ordinator of CORE Loisanglen Kumari Naorem said the matter is very serious and it amount violation of human rights.
North Eastern Region of India is a well established scenario for impunity of human rights violations by State security forces and police for many decades.
In the pat years, CORE has recorded many similar reports where the innocent civilian are indiscriminately fire at, subjected to arbitrary detention, meted out brutal torture, cruel and inhuman or degrading treatment, the statement said.
CORE further demands the Government of India should guarantee the protection of all civilian in its territory and respect the inherent and inalienable rights of people of Manipur.
