The foundation stone laying function of the 33/11 KV Power Sub Station at Singhat under Churachandpur Sub Division was held today with Chief Minister O Ibobi as the chief guest.
The proposed power sub station which is to be completed by November 2006 will be provide electricity to Singhat and 74 surrounding villages with the help of two 3.15 MVA transformers.
Out of the total amount of Rs Rs 410.73 lakhs sanctioned from the Lapsable Central Pool of Resources for the construction of the Power Sub Station, a sum of Rs 82.14 lakhs has already been released for the purpose.
Speaking as the chief guest at the foundation stone laying function of the Power Sub Station at Singhat, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the priority of the State Government will rest not only on the power sector but will also include education as well as the Health sector to bring about overall development in the remote areas of Churachandpur dist.
The Chief Minister also informed that the State Govt has prepared plans for setting up similar sub power stations at Thanlon and Thingkui to solve the problems of erratic power supply in the area and further assured that the plans would be implemented very soon.
Even though the Govt is aware of the problems faced by the Hill people regarding shortage of safe drinking water, education and health care, it has not been able to take concrete measures to redress the people's woes due to paucity of funds, said the Chief Minister adding that the Govt would provide adequate Gynaecologist and Paediatric doctors for the people of Singhat within a short period.
The Chief Minister also assured to develop the school infrastructure and provide adequate teachers to all the schools under the District Council besides taking up appropriate steps to improve the education system in the Govt schools located in the hill districts the Govt schools located in the hill dists.
Assuring the people that the Govt would take up the developmental programmes very soon with an aim to bring the hill and the valley people at par, he informed that a project report for repairing the 33 Km long Singhat-Churachandpur Hq road has also been submitted to the North Eastern Council.
He also appealed to the people to extend all possible cooperation as no developmental works can be successfully implemented with the support of the people.
