Imphal, May 23:
Maintaining that all activists of MEELAL and DESAM who were arrested during the course of the agitation should be treated equally, MEELAL today rejected the offer of the Government to release the other detenues without conditions while the four persons held for torching the State Central Library and another held for burning the vehicle of the DSP, Vigilance would be released on bail.
In a statement, MEELAL said that the four persons involved in torching the library, Thoudam Anand Meitei, Leishangthem Surjit and Leishangthem Ibochouba and Gojen Meitei held for burning the Vigilance Dept vehicle should not be treated differently.
The agitation should not be compartmentalised, said MEELAL adding that what these five persons did were the same as the other detenues put under arrest by the State Government.
All the arrested should be released on the same day and the same time without any conditions or else the MEELAL activists will refuse to move out from jail, said the statement.
If the Government does not yield to the demand of MEELAL by May 30, then a more intensified agitation would be launched, warned the organisation.
