Businessmen at the Trade Centre, Moreh who are selling their goods from the rooms rented out to them are likely to be shown the exit doors, if they do not clear off their pending rents within June 15.According to a reliable source, none of the businessmen who are running their business from the rented rooms at the Trade Centre have paid the rent since May 2003.Considering the plight of the businessmen, who might be facing financial difficulties, the Committee on Trade Centre, Moreh has decided to reduce the monthly rent payable per room from Rs 1000 to Rs 700 during a meeting held today with Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) in the chair, the source disclosed.
This special consideration was made following a request from the Trade Centre Development Society, Moreh.
However, if the businessmen fail to clear off the pending rent amount despite despite the reduction in the rent within June 15, the room allotment orders issued in their favour would be cancelled, the source said.
There are presently 15 rooms in the Trade Centre which were constructed with the stated objective of facilitating trade relation between India and the neighbouring Myanmar.
The Trade Centre is being run by the State Directorate of Commerce and Industries.
On the other hand, another source informed that if the selected entrepreneurs do not start selling their wares at the newly set up Trade Centre in Imphal East within June, other applicants would be given preference instead of them.
