The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted lists of the charge-sheeted persons comprising of three senior telecom officials and one contractor in connection with alleged fraudulent passing of bill, before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal.
The names listed in the charge sheet include ML Sharma the then DE, Optical Fibre Cable (OPC), DOT new DE BSNL, Jodhpur, Rajasthan Narendra Kumar the then DE, DOT, Guwahati now DE Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTLN), New Delhi, Pijush Kanti Bakshi, the then SDC, OFC Imphal now SDE Kolkata Telephones and Abed Hussain (contractor) of Guwahati.
The fraudulent passing of the bill incurred a loss approximately Rs 17,50,190 to the Corporation, said the charegsheet submitted by CBI, Silchar.
The investigating agency alleged that the accused public servants hatched conspiracy with the private contractor causing undue gain to the latter in respect of the OTC trenching and laying works in sub-station 22 (b) and 25 (a) on the Imphal-Moreh route.
The bill was passed at an exorbitant rate for orders showing higher grade of soil for getting higher class rate and falsely certified, it added.
In this matter, the CBI had already registered an FIR against the accused u/s 120 B, 420, 468, 477 A IPC and section 13 (2) r/w Sec 13 (i) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
