Governor visits relief camps, meets chief secretary

Imphal, May 10 2023:
Governor Anusuiya Ui-key visited relief camps set up in Imphal on Wednesday and enquired about the prevailing conditions of displaced people sheltered there.
The Governor first visited the relief camp at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex where she met with the displaced people mainly from Moreh border town and Churachandpur district and enquired about their inconveniences.
She personally talked to the victims and assured them that the government is working round the work for the safety and security of the people while vowing all possible help to the people in distress.
After interacting with the people, the Governor told media persons that all efforts are being made for relief and rehabilitation of the dis -placed people staying in various relief camps.
She highlighted that confidence building measures is the need of the hour to allay fear psychosis in the minds of the people.
Uikey also mentioned that State Level Relief Committee consisting of representatives of various political parties, civil society organisations (CSOs) and NGOs along with representatives of different communities and central forces will be formed to look after the overall relief works in the state.
The Committee will assess the damage in different areas and required compensation and rehabilitation works will be taken up.
It will also work to remove misunderstanding among the communities and it will work for instilling mutual understanding and brotherhood among various communities in the state, she added.
When asked about the follow up actions about vandalism, arson and human causalities, Uikey said that a judicial committee will be constituted and will enquire about the incidents and those found involved or guilty will be punished.
The Governor continued that the centre is fully committed to ensure safety and security of the people in the state, while adding that the Union home minister Amit Shah is in touch with the state government and adequate security forces have been provided to ensure security and they are working round the clock.
Later, the Governor went to the relief camp at 143 Bn CRPF at Lamphelpat and enquired about the displaced people from Langol and adjoining areas who have been taking shelter there.
Uikey then assured all possible help for their relief and rehabilitation.
She appealed to all the stakeholders to co-operate and work together to ensure peace and normalcy in this hour.
The Governor also distributed relief materials consisting of drinking water, dal, vegetables, juices, sanitary pads and baby foods.
Meanwhile, newly appointed chief secretary Vineet Joshi called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
He apprised the Governor about the prevailing situation in Manipur and discussed about all possible steps to be taken for immediate relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
