Govt urged for safety of riot-hit pregnant women

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson Ulka Salam has urged the Health Directorate and government authorities concerned to shift violence-affected pregnant women staying at relief camps, to safer facilities so as to prevent health complications during deliveries.
The chairperson made the appeal to the government while speaking to media on Wednesday during inspection visit and donation of edibles to relief camps set up at Kangla Sangomsang, Kumbi and Chingmei (Ema Nganu Leima) Keibul Lamjao.
A team of MSCW led by Ulka also reached out to displaced people putting up at relief camps set up at Ch Tula Singh Junior High School, Sekmai; Heingang Kontha Makha Leikai Model Club; ana 1st MR campus on Tuesday.
Pointing out the need to shift those violence-hit and displaced pregnant women, children and aged citizens currently staying in various camps, the chairperson disclosed that she has contacted authorities concerned and urged them to act accordingly at the earliest.
She also appealed to all sections of the society to work for bringing peace and normalcy in the state.
During the visit, the MSCW team provided floor mats, blankets, sanitary pads and edible items to the relief camps.
