11 looters held, 80 more guns returned

Imphal, May 10 2023:
At least 11 individuals, who looted properties from abandoned houses amidst the communal violence, have been arrested by police.
According to a statement of Imphal East superintendent of police, two individuals involved in looting household properties from abandoned houses in Checkon area have been arrested.
They are identified as Md Basir, 33 son of late Md Vunish of Hafiz Hatta and Md Kadir, 50 son of late Md Achou of Yairipok Tulihal presently residing at Hafiz Hatta.
Both Basir and Yunish were arrested in connection with an FIR registered in Porompat police station and produced before the court on Wednesday.
The court remanded both to 15 days judicial custody till May 24 .
Meanwhile, SP Imphal West informed in a statement that Lamphel police station registered six cases relating to looting in Langol and Kwakeithel areas during the course of violence.
As part of investigation carried out by Lamphel police, nine individuals who looted vehicles, cameras, laptops and other household properties have been rounded up.
The po lice did not provided details of the nine, all of whom were produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
It also said that many people looted household properties during the violence are yet to be arrested and stolen properties recovered.
While appealing to all concerned people to return the stolen properties to nearest police station, the state home department warned that legal action would be initiated in case recover stolen properties during house-to-house search.
Meanwhile, 80 more guns snatched from security forces from different areas of the state during the height of the violence have been returned in the past 24 hours.
