Imphal, July 06 2012:
A Manipuri personnel of 23 Assam Rifles has been accused of randomly firing at his locality some days back.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Meira paibi activist Sorokhaibam Leipaklei alleged that the AR personnel namely Khumbongmayum Mocha (30) s/o Kh Dhruba of Langthabal Mantrikhong fired several rounds at around 9.30 pm of July 4 .
Claiming that unprovoked firing by Mocha on July 4 was not an isolated case, she contended that local residents are gripped with fear and apprehension due to unruly conduct of the AR man.
Based on a complaint filed at Singjamei police station, Mocha's father has been picked up by a police team even though Mocha is evading arrest, Leipaklei maintained while adding that in condemnation of Mocha's conduct a public meeting was also held on July 5 wherein decision was taken to urge authorities concerned conduct a probe and confiscate the weapon used by Mocha.
In case peace and tranquillity in the locality is disturbed again, both Dhruba and his son Mocha would be held responsible, said Leipaklei with regard to the other resolution adopted at the meeting.
