Imphal, July 06 2012:
In order to facilitate e-mode of payment and receipt of funds and identify innovative e-payment methods for transfer of funds and wages for Government schemes, the State Government has constituted a task force.
The 13-member task force was set up by an order issued by the Finance Commissioner on July 3 in accordance to a directive of the RBI.
The first meeting of the task force would be held on July 10, informed an official source.
Members of the task force are drawn from Finance Department, Rural Development Department, Social Welfare Department, NIC, BSNL, RBI, UCO Bank, SBI and UBI.
The task force would submit a report/recommendation to the Government within the current month.
The task force would examine possibility of transfer and receipt of Government funds through Net Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) .
It would also devise innovative means and methods of transferring funds/wages of Government schemes like NREGS to beneficiaries directly through e-payment mode.
To identify suitable technology for connectivity after due consideration about the diversity and difficult terrain of the State is another responsibility assigned to the task force.
It is also another duty of the task force to prepare a blue print for the State which would enable accessibility of modern payment methods in the State in a safe, secure, sound and efficient manner.
Notably, the State Government has already switched to e-payment mode for payment of salaries, release of funds and procurement of goods.
