Imphal, July 06 2012:
Quite often, people in Manipur have witnessed digging up of roads, drainage or footpaths that were constructed newly, only to redo the works later due to lack of co-ordination among the different Government departments, thus wasting public money unnecessarily.
In addition to wasting public money, lack of co-ordination among the different departments also cause inconveniences and annoyance to the people.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao in this regard, Salam Kamalkeshore, Ex-Chairman of All Manipur Transports Cooperative Society, has mooted that PIL should be filed against such acts of waste public fund to give a jolt to the state government.
Kamalkeshore pointed out that the road median constructed along Wahengbam Leikai was completed recently, but soon after it was destroyed on the ground that it was wide for the road.
Now, reconstruction work has begun reducing the size of the road median by 1 meter.
"Yes, the width of road median should be reduced to give more space to footpath and the vehicle lanes.
So, why this was not thought of in the first place? Constructing the road median and then dismantling it to make it smaller, this is waste of public money", Kamalkeshore said.
Such irresponsible acts should not be left unnoticed by responsible people of the state, he added.
Deploring the poor condition of drainage system along Wahengbam Leikai Road, Kamalkeshore further pointed out that the present condition of drain along the road has caused flooding in Wahengbam Leikai area even when there is little rain.
Government should improve the drainage system and shift the electric posts which are erected in the middle of the drain.
Besides, the government should also take up plans to install street lamps along the road as it is one of the most important roads in the heart of Imphal city, Kamalkeshore suggested.
