Landslide destroys fields, crops

Several paddy fields and standing crops were reportedly destroyed by a massive landslide that occurred at Kolai and Molukorii area under the jurisdiction of Punanamei village in Senapati district in the night of July 1 .
According to a statement issued by the secretary of Punanamei Village Council, D Heni said that apart from the fields and crops being destroyed, massive crack has been noticed in the area.
The landslide has covered around 50 acres of cultivable areas.
Apart from paddy, other standing horticultural crops such as banana, kiwi, passion fruit, plum, peaches, potato, cabbage, pea; fishery ponds and piscicultural fisheries were destroyed overnight.
The statement further added that the land in the area is still slipping till date with no means of control at the disposal of the affected farmers.
The statement urged the Government authorities to verify the extent of the damage and ascertain the losses incurred and take up suitable measures for relief and compensate the affected villagers and farmers.
