Imphal, October 28 2016:
With the dilapidated sections of Imphal-Jiribam highway near Makru Bridge now repaired by 80 per cent which earlier looked like a stream, movement of heavy vehicles has resumed along the highway, informed Transporters and Driver Council (TDC) president H Ranjit.
Speaking to media persons today, Ranjit said that a team of TDC led by their secretary went to repair the highway on October 21 along with 280 trucks loaded with stones, three excavators (JCB) and seven tippers.
The team started the highway repairing work from October 22 and now the same work has been completed by 80 per cent.
Around 150/160 trucks left Imphal for Silchar on October 26 and they were able to reach Jiribam the same day.
Ranjit said that TDC was repairing the dilapidated sections in the interests of transporters operating along the highway and all the people of Manipur without any motive for profit.
TDC has repaired the highway repeatedly since 2010 and it has no intention to take credits for such works.
TDC was asking some funds from the State Government for repairing the dilapidated sections this time.
The Government too replied in the affirmative but it is not yet clear whether TDC would receive any money from the Government or not, Ranjit said.
With the highway repairing work almost complete, TDC has started de-clogging work at the adjoining drains.
The same work would continue after the Ningol Chakkouba festival, Ranjit said.
