Recovered COVID-19 girl found hung to death

A 21-year-old girl, who was under home quarantine after recovery from COVID-19 was allegedly found hung to death today morning.
The girl identified as Sarju Naoroibam @ Echan, d/o N Shanta and N ongbi Thajamanbi Devi was allegedly found hanging from the roof inside her room at Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Imphal East.
She reached Jiribam from Delhi via train on May 27 and stayed at the quarantine centre opened at Primary Health Centre Bashikhong before she tested positive for COVID-19 on June 2 .
She received treatment at JNIMS Hospital and after recovery, she was discharged from the hospital on June 14 with advice for further 14 days home quarantine.

Sources said the police were informed of the incident by her uncle.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Irilbung Police Station.
According to the family members, they found her allegedly hanging from the roof at around 6 am today when they went to hand over a mobile phone to Sarju, said family members.
As her home quarantine period ended yesterday (June 27), she had dinner with the family members and went to her bedroom.
Today morning, one of her friends called the family members on the phone and asked to speak with Sarju, as her phone was found switched off.
As they went to hand over the phone, the door was found locked.
When they peeked inside the room from a window, they allegedly saw her hanging from the ceiling inside the room with a Phanek, the family members said.
Meanwhile, Irilbung Police personnel, health officials and forensic team have recovered the body for postmortem.
Following the incident, locals have urged the Health Department and authorities concerned to look after the returnees' physical and mental health.
Those under quarantined including the COVID-19 patients and recovered cases should be provided proper counselling to help them cope with the disease's stress and other problems associated with stigmatisation.
