Dr Ranjan stresses on affordable healthcare

A robust healthcare system requires improved healthcare infrastructure in both the urban and rural areas and affordable healthcare plans for all, said Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan.
The Minister made the statement while speaking as chief guest at a State level workshop on Strengthening Urban Primary Health Care, organized by the Directorate of Health Services and State Health Society at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal, today.
While talking about healthcare plans and schemes, Dr Sapam Ranjan stressed that climate change and environment degradation are a cause of concern and it affects human physical and mental health.
He also pointed out that the problem of water scarcity is related to deforestation and climate change and people must encourage afforestation and conserve water.
There is shortage of water and this issue is caused by environmental degradation and deforestation.
To solve the water scarcity problem, water from Loktak Lake is being lifted through River Lift Irrigation for supplying to the public, he said.
He said, "There are many challenges facing today's society due to climate change.
There is increasing water and air pollution, air borne diseases, water borne diseases and lifestyle diseases.
All these have severe impacts on human health" .

Dr Sapam Ranjan continued that organizing workshops on such topics related to climate change and human health will spread awareness among the medical professionals as well as the public for taking up steps to mitigate climate change.
Speaking as president, Additional Chief Secretary, V Vumlunmang stated that health insurance schemes have been introduced in the State for improving the health care system and providing benefits to the public.
Director, NHM, Manipur, Dr Somorjit Ningombam and Dr Swathi Mahajan of PATH, an international, non-profit global health organisation, attended the event as guests of honor.
Officials from, Health Department and State Health Society, doctors and others were also present in the event.
Projects on strengthening Urban Health Care in Manipur, Chatbot on Mental Health and State Action Plan for Climate Change and Health were also launched by the officials and dignitaries.
