Imphal, March 27 2023:
Some students who have been staying at the office of the United People's Front (UPF) located at Keishamthong Laisom Leirak were physically assaulted by some unknown armed persons.
Meanwhile, 14 different organisations including the UPF have condemned the incident and staged a sit-in-protest today.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra said that some armed, masked men came to their office at around 7.30 pm yesterday and physically assaulted four students saying that they should not stay at the office of UPF.
The armed men were told that the four students hail from far off places and they are studying at Imphal.
They were earlier staying at the office of a student organisation located within DM College campus.

The students were left without any place of accommodation after the district administration imposed restrictions under CrPC around the office of the student organisation following a confrontation between two groups of the same student body on September 11 last year.
Subsequently, the four students shifted to the UPF office, Rupachandra said.
The way the armed men sneaked into the office of UPF when members of the civil society organisation were not present and assaulted the students is highly condemnable, he said.
Even if the armed men have any grievance against the students, they could have informed the matter to the UPF leaders, he said.
He then appealed to all concerned to avoid such incidents in the future.
