Imphal, March 27 2023:
An excavator (JCB) engaged for construction of a road leading to Konsaram village in Kangpokpi district was set ablaze by some unidentified persons last night.
The arson has sparked a tense situation between Konsaram village and Leilon village, sources informed.
Konsaram village chief said that the JCB was being used in constructing a road leading to Konsaram and it was hired from a contractor of Kakwa, Imphal.
He alleged that the excavator was set ablaze by some villagers of Leilon last night.
Claiming that Konsaram village is an ancient village, the village chief alleged that the area where Leilon village stands today once belonged to Konsaram.
Leilon village was set up on the land provided by Konsaram and the two villages have been living together in harmony since a long time back.
Recently, some Leilon villagers encroached into wooded areas of Konsaram and they even started putting up a fence.
Leilon villagers also sent cattle to the vegetable farms of Konsaram which led to large-scale destruction, the village chief said.
He conveyed that the Leilon villagers were asked repeatedly to refrain from such activities.
Saying that Konsaram villagers usually pass through Leilon village while going to other places, the village chief alleged that they were often harassed by Leilon villagers.
He then sought immediate attention of the State Government so as to avoid unwanted incidents.
