Imphal, March 27 2023:
PTRC beat SCCC by 26 runs in a shortened match on Monday and stayed four points clear at the top of MNCA Elite Tournament.
PTRC opted to bat and managed 174/8 in their 30 overs courtesy of contributions from Jotin Pheiroijam (44), Rajkumar Rex (44), Loitongbam Shitaljit (26), Khangembam Santosh (10), Rohit Sharma Aribam (9 not out), Ngariyanbam Jameson (8), Ngariyanbam Johnson (5), Bishworjit Konthoujam (3 not out) and Khwairakpam Rinju (3) .
Three of PTRC's batsmen were dismissed by Sandeep Chakraborty and two each by Rakeshwor Republic and Basant.
In reply, it was a forgettable batting display by SCCC despite Phijam Langamba (38 not out) and Rakeshwor Republic (31 not out) coming up with significant contributions.
The Singjamei side's run chase saw their first eight batters together make only 50 runs which proved costly as the late fighting efforts by Langamba and Rakeshwor weren't enough.
SCCC played the complete 30 overs but fell short of 26 runs after they were forced to 148/8.PTRC's successful defence of their total was set up by Khaidem Joyraj, who claimed three wickets, and Jotin Pheiroijam, who took two, with Rajkumar Rex, Gemson Mutum and Khwairakpam Rinju accounting for one each.
Jotin Pheiroijam claimed the man of the accolade for his 44 runs and two wickets.
With the result, PTRC extended their lead at the top of the point table with 21 points from their 11 matches.
They are now four points ahead of second-placed CHAMP while third-placed CYCLONE are six points behind the table leaders.
On the other hand, SCCC's defeat left them languishing in the relegation zone along with bottom-placed Blue Hawk, who haven't won a match in their nine games.
