Poshan Pakhwada observed in Kakching

Kakching, March 27 2023:
The Poshan Pakhwada observance was jointly organised by Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project, Kakching at Kakching Mayai Leikai multipurpose community hall on Monday.
The observance held in connection with the International Year of Millets-2023 under the theme "Small but Mighty, Embrace of Millets", was attended by Kakching DC Somorjit Salam, Zonal Education officer Yengkhom Achouba and social welfare director Ngangom Uttam as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Kakching ICDS project CDPO K Devananda was also present as a member of the dais.
In his address, DC Somorjit said that in early days, man had to wander from place to place in search of food and in the process had the opportunity to consume a perfect balance diet.
However, with the dawn of civilization, men began to settle at one place and took up agricultural activities following which consuming balance diet was reduced to a considerable level.
Along with the dawn of civilization also came various lifestyle diseases including high blood sugar among others.
In a recent survey conducted under the Chief Minister's health for All, one out of every three people in Kakching district suffered from high blood sugar.
The observance has been organised to make people aware of what foods found around us have nutritional value, he said and added that though millets might not be tasty, but it contains high nutritional value and hence the trend of consuming millets has emerged.
The function which was attended by Anganwadi workers, helpers and staff under Kakching ICDS project had KVK Thoubal Plant Breeding and Genetics subject matter specialist Dr Chuwang Hijam and Home Science subject matter specialist RK Lembisana speaking as resource persons.
A recipe contest was also held as part of the event along with opening of various stalls.
The first, second and third prize of the contest participated by 10 sectors under Kakching ICDS project were handed over to Kakching Khullen Part VIII, Kakching Wairi Kamala Pareng and Kakching Wairi Part II respectively.
