Rally organised demanding NRC update, NAYATHOL backs

Apunba Manipur Huyen Lanlong Lup, Sarit Sarak Association, Manipur and All Manipur Chiebi Association (AMCA) jointly organised a rally demanding implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC), intensification of War on Drugs and putting an end to deforestation on Sunday.
A release issued by Peace rally on NRC & War on Drug media & publicity Okram Wangangmba Meetei informed that more than 3000 volunteers including students and teachers of Huyen Lanlong participated in the rally which was taken out from Khuman Lampak indoor hall and passed through Khongnang Ani Karak, Thangmeiband Lilasing Khongnangkhong, Khoyathong, BOC and concluded at Khuman Lampak.
The rallyists shouted slogans like 'Implement NRC in Manipur', 'Continue war on drugs until it is successful', 'Stop poppy cultivation for future generation' and 'Stop deforestation' .
Volunteers of Ukhrul District Thang-Ta Association and Kamjong Thang Ta & Cultural Association also took part in the rally, the release conveyed.
Meanwhile, observing how infiltration of illegal migrants has affected the natural ecosystem, the society and how it brought about demographic imbalance in the state through mass deforestation, illegal poppy plantation and new settlement in reserved and protected forest areas, Naharol Yaipha Thousil Lup (NAYATHOL), Umathel has expressed support to the demand for updating National Register of Citizens (NRC) with 1951 as the base year.
In a statement, the club expressed concern over the unnatural population growth in some hill districts and cited it as a result of infiltration of huge number of illegal migrants and their settlement by setting up new villages.
The club also expressed concern over the social and environmental impact of mass deforestation carried out illegal poppy plantations, and urged the government to intensify the crackdown on such illegal activities.
While welcoming the state cabinet's decision to withdraw from the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with two UG groups for their alleged involvement in poppy plantations, it also urged the Central government to nullify the SoO agreement.
