Gold worth Rs 7.11 crore seized

2 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (S) apprehended two persons along with gold bars worth Rs 7.11 crore yesterday.
The gold bars weighing around 28 kg were recovered from the battery cabinet of a truck, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
The mobile check post established by 2 Assam Rifles intercepted the truck (AS01-EC-1776) near Lilong in Thoubal district.

During the search of the vehicle, the troops recovered the gold bars, said the press release.
The apprehendees have been identified as Md Arif (24) s/o Md Tolen of Kai-bung Makha Leikai and Sayed (17) s/o Zakir of Kaibung Makha Leikai.
The AR press release said that although the troops had uncovered different ways of gold smuggling in the past, this method of concealing gold inside battery cabinet was detected for the first time.
This recovery would definitely put a huge dent on the prevalent smuggling racket in the state, the press release claimed.
The arrested along with the recovered items have been handed over to Customs Dept, Pallel.
