Imphal, September 24 2013:
As decided in the MUTA executive committee meeting held today, Manipur University teachers have decided to launch non-cooperation movement with immediate effect.
The executive committee meeting also deliberated on the prevailing situation in the Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT).
Notably, MIT is a constituent college of Manipur University.
Justifying their decision, a press release issued by MUTA alleged that the Vice Chancellor has not given any attention to the many demands of MUTA such as implementation of HAG scale, appointment of Pro-Vice Chancellor, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, various directors, filling up of faculty positions etc.
The non-cooperation movement which would continue till October 31 will cover everything except the normal teaching and examination activities of PG classes and PhD course works.
In case the demands of MUTA are not fulfilled by then, total boycott of the Vice Chancellor would take over the non cooperation movement.
All the members present at the meeting felt that the situation was blown out of proportion due to negative attitude of the Principal in-charge and indifferent attitude of MU authority, specially the VC.
The members unanimously felt that the police crack down on MIT students should be condemned in the strongest terms.
MUTA further appealed to the MU authority to bring an amicable solution and resume normal academic activities as soon as possible because indefinite suspension of classes would be disastrous for students of the technical institute.
