Imphal, September 24 2013:
Conveying its resolute decision to oppose the election schedule of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) before an acceptable resolution and conducive atmosphere is created, the Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang (Southern Tangkhul Naga Union) has urged the Chief Election Commission of TNL to correct the election process of TNL by countermanding and re-notifying the forth coming general election of the TNL, 2013 .
Subsequent upon the emergency meeting of the TNAL held on Sept 23 at Nagaram Community Hall here, the TNAL has submitted a memorandum to the CEC of TNL today on matter pertaining to the general election of the apex Tangkhul body, TNL.
It was utter injustice and illogical move of the election commission of TNL and concerned authority to proceed with the TNL election even as the emotional state of the public as well as the bereaved family is still volatile and vulnerable due to the recent assassination of Jonathan Kashung, who had cleared all scrutiny formalities of the election, the TNAL representation to the CEC of TNL signed by its chairman J Mayarmi and secretary Rockson Shimray said.
"It will also be unfortunate and rash manoeuvre of the concerned to hold the election during this volatile situation, because, the promise of clarifying the reason why he had been abducted and murdered remains unfulfilled," the TNAL said adding that one raises eyebrows as to why the commission is so bent on conducting the general election in such haste and choose the path of inglorious rush.
The TNAL memo pointed out that the last date of withdrawal of candidature as notified by the CEC was Sept 12.Ironically, the deceased candidate's family was forced to withdraw his nomination under duress and consequently, the family relented to the pressure due to fear of death threat on Sept 16 and that too without the consent and physical presence of the candidate.
