Imphal, August 11, 2012:
In what could be seen as a step closer to a formal dialogue, City Meitei of KCP-MC (City Meitei group) was brought to Imphal from New Delhi today by Imphal West SDPO Madhunimai.
At Tulihal Airport, Naorem Brojen, better known as City Meitei was accorded a warm reception by a group of people including his family members, relatives, well-wishers and followers.
There, Brojen prostrated and sought blessing from his father Nara.
A enthusiastic crowd, mostly from Tentha Khunou, the birth-place of Naorem Brojen, waited for hours with garlands in their hands at Tulihal Airport for arrival of the rebel leader.
Talking to media persons at the airport, City Meitei alias Brojen said that he was coming to Imphal to complete the groundwork for a formal dialogue with the Government.
City Meitei's wife Kajal remarked that her husband's decision to hold dialogue with the Government was a positive move.
Meanwhile, a high ranking official of the Home Department informed that the Government had already held a preliminary round of talk with City Meitei at New Delhi on July 31. He returned to Imphal today to prepare cadres for a 'home-coming' ceremony.
After the 'home-coming' ceremony, the Government would take up necessary steps for their rehabilitation.
All the cases filed against City Meitei have been withdrawn, said the official adding that the Government would hold dialogue with City Meitei, Lamphel and Taibanganba as a single group.
On the other hand, the Government would hold a parallel dialogue with another group comprising of KCP-MC's Lanheiba, Sunil and Chingkheinganba.
