Imphal, April 01 2011:
Authority of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) today said that they were unaware that SSA textbooks were being sold in some book stores in Imphal and announced that an inquiry into the matter will be conducted.
With regard to the non-availability of the textbooks, the authority informed that efforts are on to ensure availability of the same after April 18 saying that printing firms have been asked to ensure delivery of the books by April 18 .
Addressing reporters in his office chamber today, BSEM Secretary L Rajmuhon ruled out involvement of Board officials in the SSA scam and hinted that it could be the act of those who wanted to earn quick money.
The books have no mandatory holograms he said.
The MSF had yesterday definitively declared that some of the seized text books had SSA holograms.
Rajmuhon instead chose to state that all textbooks from class I to X published by the board should have the BSEM hologram, except for some books for class IX .
He further said that printing firms directly deliver the textbooks to the office of the SSA and the board has nothing to do with the delivery.
It is upto the SSA authority to clarify how the text books got to the open market, he said.
With regard to non-availability of text, Rajmohon said that the board has set April 18 as the deadline to the printing firms concerned to submit the text books.
The board will go to law court if the firms fail to meet the set deadline.
A meeting was held today to discuss the matter before it worsened.
It was attended by BSEM officials led by secretary L Rajmuhon and students' bodies like MSF, DESAM, AMSU, etc.
