Imphal, July 05 2021:
With Manipur among the six States where two members from the Centre have been deputed to study the rising graph of Covid infections and deaths, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded the State Government to spell out what it thinks are the reasons for the rapid spread of the virus.
This is all that more important since the two member team from the Centre are already in the State.
Addressing media via a video recording, vice president of the MPCC (I), K Meghachandra said that the move of the Centre in deputing a team to study the rising graph of positive cases and deaths is noteworthy.
Taking in view the steps taken by the Government in the last one/two months to battle the pandemic, the health workers, different CSOs and the Congress have been extending the needed assistance and co-operation to the Government, said Meghachandra.
However the rising daily infections and deaths suggests that something, somewhere is missing and it is because of this that the Centre has deputed a team to study the situation in Manipur, contended K Meghachandra.

The virus is today widespread, said the Congress MLA and added that till July 4, the number of infected persons stood at 72,286 and 1196 deaths.
The number of active cases is 5,159, added the MLA.
Moreover there are cases wherein the father and mother in a family have passed away due to the virus.
In others there have been cases wherein the parents along with their children have passed away.
There are also cases when all the members of a family have been infected by the virus, added the MLA.
It is this trend which has compelled the Congress to ask whether there is any loophole in the Covid management of the Government, said Meghachandra.
It is in cognizance of the global pandemic that Congress MLAs and its members have been extending whatever help it can overlooking all political differences, said the MLA and noted that while cases have dropped in other parts of the country, the virus is still running rampant here.
While other parts of the country have slowly started limping back to normalcy, Manipur is amongst the six States where the spread of the virus is on the upswing, he noted and reminded that this is despite the restrictions imposed on movement of people for the past two months.
The Congress MLA also urged the State Government to make public the detailed findings as furnished by the Central team.
It is also in bad taste for the BJP led Government to dub the suggestions made by the Congress as attempts to politicise the Covid situation, said Meghachandra.
Former Speaker of the Assembly, Th Lokeshore and Hareshwar Goswami were also present in the video footage sent to the media houses.
