Imphal, January 04 2013 :
The body of Laishram Ibohalbi, who was allegedly beaten up to dead by bandh supporters at Finch Corner in Ukhrul and left buried at an abandoned jhum field in Ukhrul, was brought to Imphal late night yesterday.
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed against the killing during a public meeting held at his home place Yairopok today.
Condemning the brutal act of killing Ibohalbi, the JAC blocked the road in Yairipok Bishnunaha.
Ibohalbi was policeman who married a Tangkhul woman by the name of Ningamla of Ukhrul.
She is his second wife, the first one being a Meetei.
He was living with his second wife at Imphal West Police Reserve line.
According to family sources, Ibohalbi went to Chungkha village in Ukhrul along with his second wife to attend Christmas festival.
After attending the festival, he came back to Imphal from Ukhrul with a friend named Mongrei Tanghkul, Secretary of Chungkha village on December 29 .
On their way they were blocked by bandh supporters in Finch Corner and told them to go on foot from there.

As they came walking, they came across a vehicle carrying a sick person.
As Mongrei Tanghkul had an exam the following day, he boarded the vehicle and proceeded to Imphal leaving Ibohalbi to himself.
On December 31, while having lunch in a hotel at Finch Corner, on his way back to Chungkha village from Imphal, Mongrei Tanghkul was informed by some of his friends that Ibohalbi was chased by bandh supporters and beaten up as soon as he left in the vehicle.
When contacted the family members of Ibohalbi at Chungkha village as well as at his first wife's place at Yairipok, it was reported that he had been missing since the day they have left for Ukhrul on December 29 .
Later a missing report was lodged with the Shangsak Poice Station.
A search team comprising the villagers and family members found the body buried near a hut in an abandoned jhum field.
Meanwhile, the public meeting held at Yairipok Bishnunaha has adopted a number of resolutions including the demands for legal action against all those involved in the killing; providing a Government job to one of the family members; payment of ex-gratia to the bereaved family and to bring out the culprits within four days and not to take the dead body until all these demands are fulfilled.
Soon after the meeting a large number of agitators came down to Imphal and took out a rally from Palace compound.
The rallyists were, however blocked by police personnel.
Later on some of them were allowed to go and meet the Chief Minister to submit their memorandum.
However, no understanding could be brought in the meeting with the Chief Minister and the JAC has not taken the body.
