Nagaland polls before Mar 18

Amid the slogan "Naga solution before Nagaland Assembly election" the Election Commission of India (ECI) has said today that Assembly elections in Nagaland will be held before the present tenure expires.
The current Nagaland assembly term expires on March 18 .
"We have to conduct the Assembly elections in Nagaland before March 18," said VS Sampath, the Chief Election Commissioner of India while addressing the media at Police Complex, Chumukedima in Dimapur today.
A complete team of ECI arrived at Dimapur on Thursday and met top bureaucrats of the State and the leaders of political parties.
After having meeting all those who matter, VS Sampath said he had instructed all the District Magistrates in Nagaland to start preparing for the Assembly elections.

Sampath, 'more than one political parties' had (requested the ECI for better security during the polls.
"Yes, adequate security will be provided and Nagaland will witness free and fair polls," assured the Chief Election Com-missioner, adding, "We had met the chief secretary and the director general of police (DGP) yesterday and had discussed on this count.
"V.S.Sampath also said that the political parties in Nagaland Shad requested the ECI to check that a person should not be Sallowed to vote several times "We will ensure that it should be one-man, one vote.
No one has two votes," added the Chief Election Commissioner: He also said that all the concerned officials had been asked to device a mechanism to address this bogus voters issue.
VS Sampath then said the election expenditures of the candidates will be strictly monitored by the ECI.
Also participating in the media conference, Election Commissioner H.S.Brahma said,''There is no room for the malpractice where few village leaders used to vote for thw whole village." He said there is no dual voters dealing and "we will closely see .that such cases do not occur.
11.9 lakh voters will go to the polls in Nagaland of which 6 lakhs are males where 5.9 voters are females.
