Fire Service manages to save properties worth Rs 41 crores in 2012

Properties worth over Rs 10 crore was lost in several fire incidents in Manipur that took place during the year 2012 even if Manipur Fire Service managed to save around Rs 41 crore worth of properties.
Around 303 fire incidents were recorded in the state in the preceding year-89 major cases which had lost properties worth more than Rs 1 lakh each, 25 cases which had lost below Rs 1 lakh each and another 174 minor cases that had lost below Rs 50,000 each, said an official of Manipur Fire Service on Friday.
In the around 303 fire incidents, properties worth around Rs 10, 91, 56,052 was destroyed while the Manipur Fire Service managed to save Rs 41, 84, 32,230, said N Noren, Director, Manipur Fire Service while talking to Newmai News Network.
Manipur Fire Service has been in service since its inception in 1957. But, currently it has only 27 staff, one fire tender and two fire engines.
It was set up as a separate department later in 1991 .
Presently, Manipur has 15 fire sub-stations and one main fire station, that is, Manipur Fire Service, Imphal.
