Ukhrul killing : JAC constituted, Govt urged to punish culprits

Along with constitution of a Joint Action Committee in connection with the murder of Ibohanbi, the State Government has been urged to pull up and punish all the culprits involved in the murder.
The JAC was constituted after a public meeting which started from 7 am today at Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai, Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi premises.
Under the leadership of the JAC, a large number of people headed for Imphal in around 10 vehicles to meet Chief Minister O Ibobi in connection with the murder.
However, the vehicles as well as the people were halted at Palace Compound by Imphal East District Police.
Nonetheless.
police allowed a few representatives of the JAC to move ahead and meet the Chief Minister.
Apart from holding a meeting with the Chief Minister, the JAC also submitted a memorandum.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra were also present at the meeting.
Among other points, the JAC through its memorandum urged the Government to book and punish all those involved in the murder of Ibohanbi.
Adequate compensation and a suitable Government job to a member of the bereaved family were some other demands of the JAC.
These demands must be fulfilled within two days until which the corpse would not be claimed.
In case, the demands go unfulfilled within the given deadline, all kinds of agitation would be launched together with civil society organisations of the State, the memorandum stated categorically.
Police Constable Laishram Ibohanbi (54) of Yairipok Bishnunaha was found dead in a wooded area of Hatha village near Flinch Comer in Ukhrul district yesterday.
He was returning home on a scooter after attending Christmas festival at his wife's place at Chungka on December 29.But he went missing on the way.
Meanwhile, during the meeting today, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated those involved in the murder have been identified.
Even though the accused have absconded, all efforts would be put in to pull them up, Ibobi assured the JAC.
The Chief Minister further assured to provide compensation of Rs five lakhs and a suitable Government job to the next of kin of the deceased.
Accordingly, the JAC has agreed to claim the corpse tomorrow which is at present kept at RIMS morgue.
