Shankerlal Swamy case to be handed over to CBI

The State Cabinet today decided to hand over the case of Shankerlal Swamy, Manager of Max Enterprises, who was found dead in a fish pond at Keijengbam Loukon at Wahengkhuman after being abducted by unidentified persons from inside Kangla Fort while taking a morning stroll, to the CBI for necessary investigation.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, which was convened at around 4 pm today, Minister M Okendro, who is the spokesperson of the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led Congress Government, informed that the State Government has also decided to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
The State Cabinet has also given its approval for initiating peace talks with a faction of KYKL 'in principle' after the group approaches the Government for joining the mainstream.
Furthermore, the Cabinet has approved implementation of Special Scheme for Surrender cum Re-habilitation in Manipur.
Meanwhile, the three accused persons including two IRB personnel who have been arrested by Imphal West district police in connection with the abduction and subsequent killing of Shankerlal Swamy were produced before the court of CJM, Imphal West today and remanded to police custody for seven days.
The three accused persons who have been remanded to police custody are Yumnam Dinesh (34), s/o late Angouba of Wahengkhuman Mayai Leikai; Laishram Herojit (42), s/o of L Ibotombi of Lamsang Laingou village and Hanjabam Deepu alias Purnananda, s/o late Kumar Sharma of Bramhapur Thangapat Mapal.
Both Dinesh and Herojit are personnel of 1st IRB.
On the other hand, another person who was also involved in the killing of Shankerlal Swamy has been reportedly arrested by a team of City police.
He has been identified as Oinam Govind alias Poirei, s/o late Angoubi of Wahengkhuman Mayai Leikai.According to police report, Govind has been working under late Sunil Meetei, Commander of KCP (MTF) and had already surrendered to the police.
He was apprehended by a team of City Police from Churachandpur district headquarters today.
The body of Shankerlal Swamy was handed over to the family members after conducting a post mortem in the mortuary of RIMS today.
