State level seminar held

A one-day State level seminar on 'Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)' organised by Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services was held today at the conference hall of Manipur State Veterinary Council.
As chief guest of the seminar's opening ceremony.
Commissioner (V&AH) L Lakher emphasised on preventive measures to ensure livestock population in the State are prevented from calamitous events.
Noting threat posed to domestic animals, specially cattle, by foot and mouth disease, he called upon veterinarians to ensure that disease is effectively checked through regular updating of treatment methods and vaccination programmes.
Director (V&AH) Dr Saidokhum Joute and Joint Director (ICAR), Manipur Centre Dr N Prakash graced the inaugural session as the president and guest of honour respectively.
During the technical session, Joint Director (Vety) Dr K Gopal Singh made a presentation on 'An overview of FMD in livestock animals and its control measures', PI (FMD-RC), Khanapara (Guwahati) Dr K Sharma on 'Impact of FMD in the national economy' and senior scientist (PD-FMD), ICAR (Mukteswar) Dr BB Das on 'Roles and strategies of PD-FMD on control of Foot and Mouth disease in India' .
