Govt opts for CBI inquiry

A Cabinet meeting held today has decided to hand over the murder case of Mangalam Plywood Factory and Max Enterprises Manager, Shankarlal Swami to the CBI for a thorough probe.
This was informed by Government spokesman and Education Minister M Okendro after the Cabinet meeting which was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Although police have arrested two IRB personnel and two other persons in connection with the abduction and murder, the Government decided to hand over the case to CBI so that all the culprits are awarded exemplary punishment.
IRB men Yumnam Dinesh, Laishram Herojit of Laingam Khul and Hanjabam Deepu alias Pumananda of Brahmapur IThangapat Mapal and Oinam Govind of Waheng Khuman jhave been arrested.
Oinam Govind is a KCP surrenderee.
The Cabinet meeting further decided to provide ex-gratia of Rs five lakhs to the family of Shankarlal.

The two IRB personnel and Hanjabam Deepu alias Pumananda were produced before the Court of CJM Imphal west today and they have been remanded to police custody for seven days Meanwhile, the corpse of Shankarlal has been handed lover to the family after post mortem at RIMS today.
The Cabinet meeting also agreed to formulate a new surrender cum rehabilitation scheme.
With regard to the proposal of some UG cadres for their surrender, the State Cabinet has given its consent.
As such, a 'home-coming ceremony ' would be or gamsed very soon.
