Imphal, January 04 2013 :
For the volume of power which Manipur cannot transmit out of the total share allocated from central sector power units located in the North East including Loktak Hydroelectric by the project the Goverment of Manipur has been receiving revenue for the last many year.
A highly placed source informed that the State is un able to get the full share of power allocated from central sector power projects due to its inadequate power transmission system.
As the State cannot draw its full allocated share, the Shillong based Regional Load Dispatch Centre has been diverting power to other States under a practice known as unscheduled interchange For this, the Power Department of Manipur has been getting revenue continously.
The rate of unscheduled interchange revenue is fixed by the Regional l.o.ul Dispatch Centre During the last fiscal of 2011-12, the Power Department received around Rs 30 crorcs as unscheduled interchange revenue liven though the source did not divulge the exact number of years during which Power Department has been receiving unscheduled interchange revenue, the source said that, the State has been receiving unscheduled interchange revenue from the very beginning' .
The volume of power allo cated to Manipur Irom central sector power projects including Loktak Hydroelectric Project is 12 MW to 115 MW at the most.
On the other hand, power requirement in the State is around 170 MW during peak hours.
Although peak hour power requirement is 170 MW, the existing transmission system cannot draw even the allocated share of 115 MW.
There are two transmission lines for drawing power for the State.
One is the Dimapur-Imphal line and the other is the Loktak-Leimatak line.
Transmission capacity of each line is 50 MW each which means 100 MW in total liven if their capacity is said to be 50 MW each, the transmission lines can never draw power to their full capacity.
Generally only 70/80 MW of power can be drawn through the two transmission lines.
The Imphal-Dimapur line which is connected to Yurembam station of PGCI has been supplying power to Yurembam sub-station, Kangpokpi sub-station, Yai-ngangpokpi sub-station and Kongba sub-station.
The Imphal-Jiri-I line which is connected to Loktak Project supplies power to Rengpang sub-station.
The line which connects Loktak Project to Kakching sub-station supplies power to Ningthoukhong and Churachandpur.
PGCI line which connects Loktak Project to Jiribam supplies power to Jiribam sub-station.
When power could not supplied to these power sub-stations due to technical problems, the Regional Load Dispatch Centre would immediately divert power to other States/lines, added the source.
