Ops conducted amid bandh Security beefed up ahead of Dec 3

As part of the overall security measures taken up ahead of the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on December 3, combing operation was conducted at the commercial areas of Imphal today, amid the three days bandh called by a faction of the KCP (MC) .
"We have intensified frisking, checkings and rapid operations at strategic areas in Imphal city and its surrounding areas as preemptive measures ahead of the PM and UPA chairperson's visit," a senior police officer manning Imphal west district said when contacted.
"Commandos carried out sudden operations at parts of Imphal city as part of the security measures today.
We have also fanned out mobile teams within and around the city areas and they are on maximum alert round the clock," the police officer added.
Apart from the available State force, personnel from the Central paramilitary forces have also been requisitioned for area domination, he said adding that another team of 30 members of the Special Protection Group (SPG) including top officials will land at Imphal tomorrow.

Ahead of the VVIPs visit , repairing and beautification works and finishing touches of all new projects are underway round the clock since the last few days even as the three-day bandh called by the KCP (MC) to denounce an alleged fake encounter killing of one of its cadres started today.
Besides inaugurating some major projectsCity Convention Centre, auditorium of Manipur Film Development Corporation and Assembly and High Court buildings, the Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson will also address the public at the Kangla fort.
Significantly the PM handed over Kangla to the people of Manipur during his 2004 Imphal visit while the High Court and Assembly buildings as well as City Convention Centre were some of the major projects announced by him during his 2006 visit.
Accompanied by central officials, the VVIPs will land at Imphal airport in a special BSF flight at 10.30 am and they will go back on the same flight to Delhi at 4 pm, official sources said.
