Hunger strike to decry crime against women

Imphal, November 28 2011:
Hunger strike against crime and torture of women has started today at Nupilan Memorial Complex.
Initiated by Young Women Help Organization, the agitation will continue till December 12 .
Speaking at a press conference, Young Women Help Organisation Secretary Robita said that the hunger strike has been launched to denounce crime and violence among women in the State.
She informed that there are around 276 restaurants in Manipur which have been established unlawfully and maintained that issues such as pregnancy, abortion, rape, suicide, divorce including other forms of sexual violence among women are the impact of having such restaurants.
She also urged authority concerned to abolish these illegal hubs.
The causes and preventive measures of such violence should be taught in the schools so that the younger generation can understand the issue properly, she added.
