PM likely to announce new road project

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is likely to announce a new highway project which would connect Leimatak with Jiribam via Henglep during his scheduled visit to Imphal on December 3 .
Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit who is scheduled to arrive with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the State Government sent a proposal to the Prime Minister's Office to announce a special package for Manipur, informed a source.
The proposal sent to the PMO made special mention of a new highway from Leimatak to Jiribam via Henglep.
Dr Manmohan may also sanction a new project for treatment of Maphou Dam water for supplying potable water to Imphal city as well as another project for enhancing connectivity in hill districts.
Meanwhile a joint meeting of Congress MLAs and MPCC members was held today with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair.
The meeting discussed on ensuring full public participation in the public function which would be addressed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at Kangla on December 3 .
Security measures have already been beefed up ahead of the high profile visit and round the clock work to give finishing touches on ongoing projects are on.
