Imphal, November 27:
While rejoicing over the upgradation of Manipur University to the status of a Central University, the vice president of BJP Manipur unit, N Tombi has deplored the failure of the authority to provide jobs to each of the genuine land holders whose lands have been confiscated by the State for expansion of the university.
Talking to reporters today at his Party's office, Keishampat, Tombi observed that of the total area of 283.67 acres covered by MU, more than 50 per cent belongs to genuine land holders and compensation provided by the State was Rs 3000 for a 'Sangam'.
The paltry amount was not acceptable to land holders who demanded jobs in exchange of the land confiscated by the authority, informed the VP.
He alleged that rather than giving first priority to the affected persons, the VC of the varsity, N Bijoy has been appointing men to various posts in MU for his own advantage.
He appealed to the VC to appoint those are deprived of their precious land to the numerous vacant and new posts created in the varsity.
Meanwhile, in a public meeting held today at Langthabal Mantrikhong, a Joint Action Committee For Development, Langthabal Mantrikhong was constituted and resolved to urge for a rehabilitation package and reservation of certain seats in job recruitment for those affected by the expansion of MU campus.
