Imphal, November 27:
Acting on the report carried by The Sangai Express in the November 24 issue under the caption, Govt makes a joke of developing CCpur-Imphal road, a team of officials from the State PWD, under strict instructions from the Chief Engineer, inspected the work being carried out along the said road today.
Subsequently show cause notices have also been issued on the contractors responsible for constructing the road.
Funds were allotted by the Centre under the Prime Minister's package to develop the road stretch from Nambol Maibam Chingmang upto Torbung with the PWD as the nodal agency.
However as reported earlier, The Sangai Express detailed how standard procedures to lay bitumen on the said stretch were flouted.
The PWD team led by Assistant Engineer-II N Joychandra and Assistant Engineer-III Kh Dinachandra, both of NH-Div III, surveyed the work being taken up from Nambol Maibam Chingmang to Torbung today.
A group of media persons also accompanied the team.
Speaking to the media, the officials said that the PWD is intent on meeting the deadline for the completion of the development work and added that show cause notices have also been issued on some contractors to meet the deadline.
A target to finish the work on the Khwairakpan to Maibam Chingmang within 10 days time has been set, said the officials and added that the Power Finisher (machine) to give the necessary final touches to the work is at hand.
The 35 km stretch of road is divided into three parts and the contract works were awarded to nine contractors.
Assistant Engineer Kh Dinachandra said that the PWD has set its eyes on completing the work on the Phubala to Torbung stretch by March next year.
The inconveniences faced due to lack of machinery earlier have eased to a certain extent now, he added.
The contractors who have been assigned the task of completing the road are JC Kamei (Maibam Chingmang to Irengbam Lamkhai and from Irengbam Lamkhai to Keinou Thongkhong); Kh Ingocha (Keinou Thongkhong to Khwairakpan); M Chaoba (Khwairakpan to Nachou Panthong); MK Siraj Shah (Nachou Panthong to Ningthoukhong); M Chaoba (Ningthoukhong to Phubala); N Jugeshore (Phubala to Tronglaobi and from Tronglaobi to Kwakta and from Kwakta to Torbung).
The contract works were awarded to nine contractors on paper but it was found that 19 sub-contractors are also involved in the work.
Though the Government has set a 10 day deadline to complete the Maibam Chingmang to Khwairakpan it was found that there was no process to set up the Water Bound Mecadam at a stretch of 800 metres at Yumnam Khunou.
No sub-contractors were found on the Kha Potshangbam to Nachou Panthong route with only the WBM work being done over half a kilometre.
There was no visible work progress on the Moirang Lamkhai to Torbung stretch.
