Imphal, November 27:
Video conferencing facilities would be installed in all district headquarters in addition to Chief Minister's office.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC), Manipur has been putting its best efforts to this effect.
With the arrival of requisite equipment, the NIC has taken up installation work, informed State Informatics Officer, Kh Rajen.
Till date, installation work for Chief Minister's office, Bishnupur District HQ has been completed while work for Senapati district HQ has been going on in full swing.
SIO, Kh Rajen further mentioned that installation work for all district HQs would be completed within a week and would become operational by then.
Video conferencing facility, taken up under a special scheme of North East by the Union Government, has already become operational in Nagaland and Tripura.
In this connection a review meeting of the Project Monitoring Committee would be held on November 29 at Gangtok.
SIO Kh Rajen will attend the meeting to be chaired by joint secretary of Department of Information Technology (DIT).
On the other hand, a seminar on e-governance would be organised by Science and Technology Department at State Guest House on December 1 and 2.All the sixty MLAs have been invited to the seminar to be attended by joint director of DIT, R Chandrasekhar.
NIC, Manipur has also demanded for separate computer rooms in the 38 SDO offices for installation of two computer sets apiece to be connected with internet through V-SAT 29 and LAN 18.Even though it has been instructed to avail internet facility to SDO offices, shortage of rooms has been hampering the connection work.
Failure to provide internet connection due to shortage of rooms/ building would be reported to the Centre as such, as NIC would not take the blame for the delay and failure.
Hopefully, reliable sources informed that offices with shortage of rooms have been building rooms for computer installation.
It is also reported that in addition to the existing 33 Community Information Centre (CIC), there has been approval for six more such centres.
The new CICs would be set up at Saitu Gampha, Chakpikarong, Tuibong, Saikot, Thanlon and Tipaimukh.
