Rs 10 lakh incentive for Everesters

The State Government has today decided to give cash incentive of Rs ten lakhs each to all the Manipuris who successfully scaled Mt Everest recently.
According to Government spokesman and Education Minister M Okendro, a decision to this effect was adopted during a Cabinet meeting this afternoon.
He stated that mountaineers N Bidyapati, N Chingkheinganba, Puyam Mohon, Ch Shankar and Ph Bidyachand would be given cash incentives of Rs 10 lakhs each.
Team leader of the 1st North East India Expedition to Mt Everest Dr L Surjit would also be given a cash reward of Rs 10 lakhs.
Other climber Robert Waribam and expedition doctor L Nelson would be feted with cash incentive of Rs one lakh each as per the Cabinet decision, Okendro conveyed.
The Government has intention to shower greater rewards to all outstanding sportspersons but there is a financial constraint.
That is why, the Government is unable to increase the cash incentive to the desired amount.
Okendro said that the Government would organise a grand reception function for the successful climbers.
The Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi further resolved to appoint Executive officers of the Municipal Councils of Imphal,Thoubal, Nambol, Kakching and Moirang through MPSC, he added.
