Joint Health Mela at Joupi

Under the joint efforts of the National Rural Health Mission, District Health Mission Society, Chandel and 32 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ, 28 Sector AR, IGAR(South), a Health Mela was organised on a large scale for three days from May 17-19, at 32 Assam Rifles Helipad at Joupi in Chandel District.
A statement issued by PRO of IGAR (S) informed that the Health Mela was opened for local public by Th Chittaranjan Singh, DC Chandel district and Chairman, District Health Society, Chandel on May 17 .
The opening ceremony was attended by the Commandant, 32 Assam Rifles, SDO, Tengnoupal and SDO, Khengoi as guests of Honour, and many other dignitaries.
For the first time, a sixty member team of specialist doctors, medical officers and paramedics from various hospitals & health centres of Chandel district under CMO Chandel, Dr Gaitharung, arrived at the health mela and provided free health check-up, medicines and medical advice to patients from various villages of the Khengoi block.
10 qualified specialists from various branches of medicine to include ENT, Dentistry, Gynaecology, Homeopathy, Medicine, Ophthalmology and Paediatrics were present in the Mela.
The Health Mela provided facilities like free check-ups for TB, Malaria, Leprosy, HIV, X-Ray, ultra-sound, eye check-up, immunisation and free medicine distribution for local people, it said.
32 Assam Rifles provided assistance to the organisers as regards the security arrangements, infrastructure for accommodation, setup of counters and stalls, conveyance for villagers and patients from remote areas and other administrative requirements, for successfully organising the Health Mela.
The health mela received overwhelming response from the locals and almost 950 patients from different villages were registered and treated in the three day event.
The local villagers lauded the efforts put in by 32 Assam Rifles, DC Chandel, it said.
The National Rural Health Mission and District Health Mission Society, Chandel in organising the Health Mela and providing the much needed medical succour to the local population, the PRO statement said.
