Imphal, May 20 2013:
The term 'Manipuri' would have more integrating force among the people of the State than using the term 'Ching-Tam,' opined MLA Dr I Ibohalbi.
Addressing reporters today at his Babupara official residence, Dr Ibohalbi suggested the use of 'Manipuri' identity among all inhabitants of the State so as to strengthen the ties that bond the various ethnic groups of the State.
The MLA also strongly advocated to abolish the regulation that restricted inter-mingling of hill and valley people.
The MLA said he had recently visited Sailent village where many houses were burned down by neighbouring villagers.
He said the villagers strongly denounced the inaction of the Govt in initiating re-building process of the houses that were destroyed in the arson inspite of the Govt's reported assurance.
They also conveyed their disposition that the Lamlai MLA has not turned up at the village after the May 3 incident.
Dr Ibohalbi also congratulated all the mountaineers of the State who have scaled the Mt Everest peak recently while urging the Govt to do the needful in recognition of their feat.
