MUSU for regular VC

The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has drawn the attention of the State Government to appoint a regular Vice Chancellor of Manipur University and to relocate the Assam Rifles camp being set up at Langthabal Hill within the varsity campus, at the earliest.
The MUSU team today called on the Chief Minister and submitted a 5 point memorandum in this regard and other issues.
A press conference was also held later at MUSU's office.
Speaking to media persons, president of MUSU 2020-21, Maibam Maikel said that the union had appealed to the Chief Minister to relocate the Assam Rifles Camp located within the MU premises at the earliest.
The Chief Minister also responded positively to shift the camp soon, he said while adding that the MUSU team was apprised that there was delay in shifting owing to under construction of the new camp.
The team has also apprised the Chief Minister of inconveniences in the MU's academic atmosphere due to absence of a regular VC, he said.
After AP Pandey's dismissal last year, MU has not seen any regular VC till date and as such there have been various forms of inconveniences, he said.
He further maintained the team had urged the Chief Minister to instal a proper traffic light system in front of MU main gate in view of the frequent road accidents caused due to the high foundation wall of high mast light being erected in front of the gate.
For the convenience of pedestrians while crossing the road, the team also urged the CM to construct a footbridge near the gate, he said.
To this the Chief Minister maintained that the necessary process for construction of the footbridge has been initiated, he continued.
The team also urged the CM to allocate a fire station within the MU campus to deal with fire emergencies and to subsidize the rate of mess supplies for hostellers who are facing difficulties due to hike in mess fees, he continued.
The CM during the meeting, also stated that the Government will do the needful for the appointment of a regular VC and assured to consider the appeal of placing a fire service station and subsidising rate of mess supplies, the MUSU president informed.
MUSU is pleased over the responses of the CM, he said while appealing the CM to fulfil the assurances timely.
