KLNP gets two firefighting stations

Imphal, April 20 2021:
Two firefighting stations were set-up at Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP).
The two stations were established following the direction of Chief Minister N Biren Singh given to Manipur Forest Department at 8th State Board for Wildlife held on March 12, 2021 to set up firefighting stations to aid in fighting frequent incidence of forest fire in KLNP.
MFD collaborated with Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun in the establishment of the two firefighting stations.
The two firefighting stations are established at existing anti-poaching camps at Thangbirel (Range I) and Khodangkhong (Range II) areas of the Park.
The equipment were handed over to Sanajaoba Khuraijam, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Park and Sanctuary) in the presence of frontline staffs of KLNP and WII research team.
WII is also planning to organise field based workshops and drills to build the capacity if the frontline staff to efficiently manage the fire outbreaks in KLNP.
