Imphal, April 20 2021:
In the wake of UKAL's planned religious ritual on Mt Kourbu tomorrow, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed all concerned not to 'storm the sacred site' in large numbers but visit the site for pilgrimage.
In a statement late this evening, the Chief Minister said the size of people visiting Mt Koubru should be minimised to avoid Covid spread.
Regarding the issues surrounding Koubru, he stated that the Government is taking up all necessary steps to resolve the issue and maintain peace.
Organisations which impose "restrictions" on Mt Koubru earlier have also clarified that there is no restriction on people visiting the site for pilgrimage.
Moreover, to resolve the issues, the State Government is taking up necessary legal actions.
Manipur is inhabited by different communities and every community should respect each other's beliefs and religion for peaceful coexistence, he said.
He said that the Government understands the sentiment of the organisation [UKAL] which called on the people to send one member of each household for tomorrow's visit to Mt Koubru.
Nonetheless, the visit should not be made in large number considering the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
