'Make old airfield public space'

A discussion programme organised by Heingang Kendra Meira Paibi Apunba Lup today at Manipur Press Club strongly demanded the conversion of the old airfield at Koirengei to a public place.
Speaking at the occasion, president of Heingang Kendra Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Waikhom Bormani said that the construction of a permanent fencing at the old air field by the Army has immensely caused troubles to the public of the area in their movement.
Pointing out the numerous existence of security establishments or military garrisons within Heingang AC, Bormani said that the AC has virtually become a military constituency.
The meira paibi president further drew the attention of the authority concerned to look into the construction of permanent bunkers at the old airfield.
She also urged the authority concerned to convert the old airfield to a public place.
She further hinted at the feasibility of constructing a super market or making it a parking place.
Bormani said that the traffic congestion along the stretch of NH-2 from Koirengei to Khongnang Ani Karak caused by parking of vehicles on both sides along the stretch could be eased if the old airfield is converted into a parking place.
The meeting resolved to submit a memorandum to the State Govt to demand conversion of the old airfield into a State land.
Further, it resolved to approach the State Govt to give positive response within March 15, 2015 .
The meeting was attended amongst others by Tongbram Irabot, retired Principal; Nandalal Angomcha, president of Awang Maikei Umang Lai Kanba Lup; Thiyam (O) Ekasini, vice-president of Heingang Kendra Meira Paibi Apunba Lup and Yumkham (O) Indrani, member of Heingang Kendra Meira Paibi Apunba Lup.
