Imphal, February 19 2015:
The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has condemned the arbitrary arrest and detention of its Major Keithellakpam Chilheiba alias Nabachandra by the Indian and Bangladeshi security agencies in Dhaka.
According to a statement of UNLF issued by its Director-in-charge of Publicity Department M Sak-hen, Major Chilheiba (a Bangladeshi citizen) was arrested from his residence under Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka by a team of Indian intelligence sleuths and Bangladeshi police in plain clothes on February 11 at around 10 pm (Bangladesh local time).
However, he remained untraceable even after eight days of his arrest.
UNLF further alleged that the arbitrary arrest and detention of Major Chilheiba is violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights.
Such act of the Indian security agencies in the soil of Bangladesh is an act of trans-national terrorism.
Major Chilheiba joined the outfit in 1992 and he has been working relentlessly for the liberation of Manipur from the clutches of the Indian colonialists.
There has been no official information on his arrest except the news report of his arrest published by some local newspapers of Manipur, it said.
UNLF further demanded that the whereabouts of the arrested Major Chilheiba should be made known to the public and he should also be provided legal aid as per the International Court of Justice.
