Imphal, December 18 2011:
Ukhrul Superintendent of Police has dismissed allegation by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) as concocted and malicious intent on tarnishing image of the
district police.
A statement issued by the SP Ukhrul said it was ANSAM general secretary Seth A Sashang who first physically challenged and assaulted SDPO Ukhrul.
He was joined by the volunteers of the student body while he was taken outside the office and SDPO blank fired three rounds to bring the situation under control.
It maintained that at around 1.30 pm of Dec 17, Shatshang of Marem village, Ukhrul came to the gate of Mini Secretariat Ukhrul and asked the sentries at the gate to shut the entrance gate during the bandh hour imposed by UNC.
He threatened and used abusive language to the officers and even physically assaulted one VDF personnel on duty.
DC Ukhrul on receipt of information ordered the SDPO to arrest and book Shatshang under NSA.
It further mentioned that after blank firing the secretary was taken to DC office followed by TKS president.
After giving stern warning to the president TKS and secretary ANSAM not to repeat their act in future they were released by DC Ukhrul, it added.
However, to control the mob that resulted from the wrong announcement and illegal information to the public by volunteers of TKS regarding the arrest of TKS president and ANSAM secretary, around 30 rounds of shots were fired by the district police personnel, maintained the SP's statement.
A volunteer who was found in inebriated condition armed with a big rod threatened the police personnel but was detained for a brief while.
He was later released on PR bond at Ukhrul police station in the same evening, the statement added.
