Imphal, April 17 2022:
The Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families' Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) has welcomed the decision of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal directing the SIT/CBI to conduct further investigation in connection with the killing of Ningthoujam Thopchao of Nongpok Sekmai on Feb 2, 2007 .
The order which was issued on April 7 said that the investigation was not done properly and completely and the Court maintained that it would be only proper to send the case for further investigation to extract/collect further investigation/materials.
The Court order directed that the duty of the investigating agency was to gather evidence and it was for the Court to appreciate the evidence placed before it, said a statement issued by EEVFAM.
CBI had filed closure reports before CJM Thoubal twice, the first one on March 19, 2019 and the second time on March 24, 2021, but in both instances EEVFAM had filed protest petition which led to the Court directing the investigating agency to re-investigate the incident, added the statement.
The case relating to the killing of Thopchao is one of the 39 incidents being investigated by CBI out of the 1528 cases submitted to the Supreme Court by EEVFAM and HRA.
